What are your best options to create the illusion of having a full head of hair on a bald head?
You will be glad to hear that there are few options available if you are going bald and shave your head. Not everyone wants to go down the route of having a hair piece glued to their scalp and choose to shave their head.
CONCEALERS: The cheapest way is to use a concealer and paint/draw on the shadow on your bald head. It will take some practise to get it right but you will get some success. The main concealer used for this purpose is DermMatch, which is available in various colours. There have even been cases of people using shoe polish and charcoal of all things to create the ‘shadow’ look on a bald head. The downside to these, if your going bald and shave your head, is that they have to be applied/removed daily, no one can touch your head and you have to avoid the rain and other adverse conditions. So apart from it being the cheapest it has many limitations and is not the most practical for someone who is going bald and shaves their head.
FUE – More commonly known as follicular unit extraction, may be an option to you if your hair loss is not that excessive and you have plenty of suitable hair in your donor area. FUE involves hair being transferred from your donor area to the balding area. This way you would be able to clip your hair quite short and would not necessarily have to shave it all off. The downside to this kind of treatment is that it is expensive, there is also a likelihood of scars/raised skin where the new hairs are planted and you would have further costs if your hair continued to recede and you needed a ‘top up’. Also the results are far from optimal with this treatment.
MHT: Micro hair tattooing is a process where the bald part of you head is covered up looks like real hair. MHT MicroHair™ and MHT HairReplication™ is a form of a advanced scalp tattooing. The major advantage of this treatment is that it is undetectable and give you the appearance of having a full head of hair that’s been shaved. The treatment is semi-permanent and everyone is a suitable candidate for micro hair tattooing. Cost wise it’s cheaper than both fue and has none of the limitations that using a daily concealer has.
